Aurora was founded in 1961 as Aurora Amateurs Football Club and played in the Cape Cross League from 1963. They won the Cape Cross league in 1981-82 after several years of performing well in the league, though they lost the promotion playoffs. The next season they were able to secure promotion. The team originally played in the locality Aurora, but in 1983 they moved to the Aurora Stadium in Rosetown.

Aurora had a few good seasons in the early and mid-2000s with star player Andy Chappel. Since 2001 they have had the Rosetown Sentinel as their sponsors. In 2003, a dispute between Aurora F.C. board members led some of them to split off and form a new club, AFC Rosetown, which currently plays in the Parish League System.

Former club legend Andy Chappel was named coach in January 2013. Aurora started the 2014-15 season strong and they brought in a couple of experienced players to assist in their promotion bid. Aurora finished as runners-up to Standard FC.
