The Wedding of Princess Helene and Bernd Donia took place July 22, 2012 at St. Sebastian's Cathedral. Unlike King Anthony's wedding in 2011, this was a much larger event.
Background[]
The Princess and Bernd Donia met while studying at Grijzestad University in 2009 where they began seeing each other. On 12 October 2011, Bernd proposed to Princess Helene. She accepted following approval from both the government and the royal family, with preparations made for a wedding in the summer.
The wedding[]
The wedding service began at 14:00 local time at St. Sebastian's Cathedral, with 500 guests present. The wedding was attended by The King and Queen, members of the royal family and the Queen Mother. Other guests included the Donia family (the groom's relatives), Helene's maternal family, President and Mrs. Henneman and other dignitaries.
Foreign guests included guests from the royal families of Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Spain, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark and Norway.
Other royal guests were:
- King Oscar III, Crown Princess Marianna and Prince Anders
- King Henri III, King Jean-Louis II and Queen Amelie and Prince Martin
- Crown Prince Johan and Crown Princess Caroline
- Duchess Manuela of San Martin and Count Enrice of Alcacer and Countess Emma of Alcacer
- King Edward I and Queen Catherine
- Prince Sebastian and Princess Louise
- David de Bernières and Silvia Portas
Bernd Donia had a friend, Tony Bryans, as his best man. Queen Helene's maid of honor was close friend Sofia Martins, and her bridesmaids were Josephine Mortensen, Princess Stephanie, Sofia Rojas, Princess Eléonore of Belgium, Princess Maja Elisabeth of Strasland and Princess Sabine of Cettatie.
After the wedding the newly-wed couple rode by carriage to the Royal Palace, later appearing on the balcony for the people to see.
Wedding Banquet[]
The wedding banquet was held on the night of the wedding day at the Realpaleis in Koningstad. Some 350 guests were invited to the dinner.
