The Port is the port district in Koningstad. In the early 20th century, it was only a port with many warehouses and industries, though originally having been a residential quarter in the 17th century. By the 1920s it was full of containers and was the largest shipping hub in Brunant.
The Havenstad (Port City) Project was a large reconstruction project made under mayor Katerine Steen from 1972. The purpose of the project was to demolish many of the decaying warehouses and factories and replace them with modern apartments, stores and other new buildings (similar to the project on Vandelet Quay). One of the earliest projects was the reconstruction of the Koningstadion in 1973. Over time, the old brick buildings have given way to new apartments, lofts and fancy restaurants.
