Mondan was a Brunanter luxury automobile manufacturer based in Grijzestad. The company was founded in 1965 by French-Brunanter Philippe Mondan. Mondan produced cars from 1967 to 1985, with a total production of just 425 models. Today Mondans are very rare and expensive, particularly the series 3 models.

Models[]

Series 1[]

The first Mondan series was based off a 1965 rear-engined prototype car. This car was displayed to the public at the Paris Auto Salon that year and garnered enough attention to be put into production. Several delays meant that the car was only available for sale from 1966, and with an increased sticker price equivalent to $7,000 USD it was more expensive than initial estimates. The last Series 1 car was produced in 1971, after 280 cars were made and sold. Due to financial issues Mondan did not release a new model until a few years later.

Series 2[]

The Series 2 Mondan was developed in 1972 and first sold in 1973. The car, styled by Giugiaro was highly expensive ($10,000 USD) but was the finest Brunant car available, a more refined competitor to the Dortmund Berline. It was given a 4.2-litre Jaguar V8 engine which allowed it to reach a top speed of 125-130 mph, at the time one of the fastest 4-door cars in the world. The series 2 was produced until 1978 and some 109 cars were produced. Actor James Gunn owned a 1974 Mondan.

Series 3[]

The series 3 the final model produced by Mondan. This car featured a powerful 5.3-litre HE Jaguar V12 engine, which gave it a top speed of 143mph. The car had a striking new body designed by Martin Hoever and a modern interior. But, at a hefty price of 51,000 Thalers (over $22,000 USD) it did not sell very well or regularly. Just 36 models were made from 1980 to 1985 and the company lost money on each car by the mid-1980s.
