Julio Jordes (born 30th January 1980, Brezonde) is a Brunanter politician currently functioning as the deputy leader of the political party ECO17. He was formerly a member of the Green Party, but left the party in March 2017 along with numerous others due to the 2017 Green Party corruption scandal. He is the Minister of Health and Welfare since 16 May 2019.
Jordes had an administrative job for the Cape Cross Parish government until in 2008 he decided to enter politics. That year, he was elected to the semi-official Conseis Barzuno with the Conseis's leftist party Esquedra Social. When his term ended in 2012, Jordes declined to run again and instead decided to enter more official politics, joining the Green Party. In 2015, he headed the Green Party list in the municipal elections in Brezonde. The Green Party tied with Esquedra Republicana na Barzona for the most seats and nominated Jordes to be the mayor of Brezonde, but disagreements between parties prevented anyone from being elected, with the previous mayor Martha Andona of the Social Democrats continuing in the job instead.
In March 2017, news broke that the Green Party's leader Peter Wostor had illegally diverted government money to municipal election campaigns of family and close associates. In protest, Jordes and numerous other Green Party politicians left the party; notably, one of the candidates who had been illegally funded was Charles Wostor, an independent who had been running against Jordes and the GP in Brezonde, and who abstained from the mayoral votes after the election. Soon after, Jordes, along with former Green Party deputy leader Warren Sheraldin and many of the other politicians who had left the Green Party, formed a new environmentalist/animal rights party, ECO17. Sheraldin was made the party's leader, with Jordes as deputy. After this party switch, Jordes officially endorsed Juana Martins of Yes to the Future to be mayor of Brezonde, ending the stalemate.
When ECO17 became part of the Peitersson government on 16 May 2019, Jordes became the Minister of Health and Welfare.
