Henry Winston Cavell

Cavell in 1975

Henry Winston Cavell (6 December 1924 - 25 April 2008) was a Dark realist author, one of the leading Brunanter writers in this movement alongside Hannah Jacobson and associated with the group of avant-garde artists known as The Exiles. He is perhaps best known for his novel The Mortician, published in 1964.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Cavell was actually born in Rosetown, as his father had left for there from Brunant in order to avoid high taxes.

In the 1950s he began to be associated with The Exiles in Koningstad, with Adolphe Laurent especially encouraging him to pursue his style of writing after looking over his work, and helping to publish his first novel in 1953.

Later career[]

It was the release of The Mortician in 1964 that led him to achieve renown. He followed it up with Elivra the Mad in 1967 which sold more copies but has in retrospect not achieved the same level of success. One of his darkest novels was published in 1972. The End, which was about a young child who seems to accidentally cause the death of his whole family, was rejected twice before being published in France. It would only be published in Brunant in 1985.

Legacy[]

Cavell Primary School in Brunantstad is named after him.
