Hargreaves Place is a plaza in downtown Cape Cross. It is the site of the weekly market and other major events.
Hargreaves Place is named after Captain William Hargreaves (1751-1826), the man who transformed Cape Cross into a town and served as its first mayor. The plaza is where the market is held, and on weekend mornings many people are out here buying fresh produce, cold meats and breads. In June, the plaza is where the Cape Cross Concours d'Elegance is held, the most prestigious auto show in the country and one of the better known ones in Southern Europe. The plaza was also one of the targeted sites in the 2003 Cape Cross bombing.
