Formaze viergen

Formaze viergen

Formaze viergen (English: Virgin cheese, Dutch: Maagdenkaas) is a well-known Brunanter soft cheese produced in the Cape Cross and Central Parishes. The cheese was originally produced in Brezonde, but over time, its production spread to other areas. It is protected by the Planeste DO, although production of this cheese is carried out throughout northern Brunant. Virgin cheese is characterized by its soft, creamy taste.

Virgin cheese gets its name from its soft taste and relatively short ripening period, of around one month. Production of virgin cheese is relatively large, with Oudbergen being the largest producer.

There are varieties of virgin cheese, such as Peid Viel.
