Salto Music (19th century)

The Salto, also known as the salten or Brunanter jota, is a Brunanter traditional dance and music from the 19th century, similar to the Jitanès. The name salto comes from a Mozarab word, a word which gave origin to the name jota in Spain, a dance similar to the salto.

Salto music uses instruments like the Bandor, guitar, flutes, sticks and hand-clapping. The music was originally performed and danced by peasants, but would later be arranged for orchestral music from the 1860s.
