Donderstad Museum

The Donderstad Museum is a history museum in Donderstad, Brunant, located at 2 West Gate on the Market Square. The museum showcases the local and regional history, from the town's foundation by the Venetians in 1360, to the Franco-Brunanter War and to today.

History of the building[]

A guildhall was built around 1430 on the west side of the plaza and was used by tradesmen and craftsmen to sell their wares. In the early 18th century, the guild hall fell out of use and was briefly converted into a chapel before becoming the town's first bank in 1740. The bank went out of business in the late 19th century and the building then hosted a few city offices. In 1965, the old guildhall building was converted into a local history museum.

The museum[]

The museum is open from 10:00 to 18:00 daily, and on Sundays from 10:30 to 17:00. The entry fee is 2 euros per person. Children can enter free.
