The mosque
The Arabian Quarter is a neighborhood of Koningstad, Brunant. It is known to have an unofficial community group that makes lots of different types of improvements to the neighborhood. This area is one of the biggest and most populated of Koningstad.
History[]
This neighborhood was first settled in the 1880s, though an old estate (dating to the 1820s) was already here.
Since World War II, many north Africans and Middle-Eastern people came to this neighborhood. By the 1970s, over 60% of the population were of MENA origin. It is mainly a residential neighborhood, but it has many stores and restaurants selling Arabian and North African foods and goods. The main sites are the City Park and the Koningstad Mosque. Another popular site, for tourists and locals alike is the Koningstad Souq, the neighborhoods Arabian-style market.
