5 Thalers

The 1814 Gold 5 Thalers is an extremely rare coin made in Brunant in 1814. The mint had previously made them from silver but a trial in 1814 resulted in about 10 gold samples made. All were melted down but one, which made its way out of the mint and in private collector's hands. In 1999 the State Museum purchased the coin from an unknown collector for around $1.5 million (the actual amount is unknown) and has displayed it in its museum since then.
